Innolux to Set Up Panel Plants in Vietnam

Hsing Tuan, Chairman and President of Innolux Display Corp., a thin film transistor-liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) panel maker under Taiwan's Hon Hai Group, recently announced that his company would set up a LCD module (LCM) production plant and a fifth-generation (5G)-beyond panel facility in Vietnam.

Innolux is expected to be the first local TFT-LCD panel maker to set up production plant in Vietnam. An increasing number of Innolux's major customers have jumped onto the Vietnam bandwagon by setting up production plants there, including Intel, Hon Hai, Compal etc.

Constrained by Taiwan government policy, TFT-LCD makers are prohibited to set up panel production plant in China. Innolux has decided to set up a 6G panel facility in Hsinchu Science-based Industrial Park (HSIP)'s Chunan Base from early 2008 with a targeted initial monthly capacity of 80,000 to 90,000 substrates, but which still fall far short of the panel/monitor maker's self-content rate goal of 40 percent.

According to Tuan, the company aims to reach an annual monitor shipment goal of 35 million to 38 million monitors and procure six million to seven million panels in 2008, paving the road to achieve a goal of 45 million unit goal in 2009.
